LONDON 18 November 2025 CNA Hardy recently held and broadcasted a Movember event, for all our people across our UK and European offices, to highlight men’s wellbeing and the importance of men talking to their fellow man.
We welcomed ex-World Cruiserweight Champion, Johnny Nelson, MBE to talk to us about his journey to becoming world champ, how he navigated the world of boxing, what life has been like since he retired, and his message to men all around.
Johnny walked us through his life experiences, from joining the struggling in the amateurs, to being a sparring partner in France, to becoming World Cruiserweight champion. His message was that whilst he didn’t always believe in himself, having someone that did, helped him to fulfil the potential he never knew he had.
What those in attendance took from his journey was his personal growth and resilience.
Here are some key takeaways from Johnny’s talk:
- Self-Belief and Overcoming Adversity
Johnny emphasised the importance of self-belief, persistence, and setting “impossible goals” to maintain hunger and success.
- Role of Mentorship
His trainer, Brendan Ingle, played a pivotal role in instilling confidence and discipline. Johnny highlighted the value of having a “Brendan” in life, a mentor or supporter who guides selflessly.
- Life After Boxing
Transitioning to broadcasting brought new challenges, such as overcoming reading difficulties and imposter syndrome. He stressed authenticity and character as key differentiators in any career.
- Mental Health and Movember’s Mission
A major focus was men’s reluctance to talk about health and emotions. Johnny shared personal stories about friends and family affected by prostate cancer and the tragic consequences of silence. He urged men to normalise uncomfortable conversations and to ensure you speak to your friends and family to check in on how they are doing
- Practical Advice
- Identify what truly makes you happy
- Remove “trapdoors” (excuses) to ensure success.
- Maintain structure and discipline even outside sport.
- Support others and encourage openness about mental and physical health.
The talk was motivational, candid, and deeply personal, blending humour with hard truths. It reinforced Movember’s purpose: raising awareness for men’s mental health and prostate cancer prevention while inspiring resilience and self-awareness.
Through events like these, we continue to nurture a culture of inclusivity, wellbeing, and mutual support, empowering everyone to thrive.
